Why are nurses on strike?

St. Vincent CEO Carolyn Jackson says strike part of larger agenda for nurses
St. Vincent Hospital CEO Carolyn Jackson alleged that nurses are being used as pawns to enact a union objective of statewide mandatory staffing ratios, something she said would lead to higher health care costs, delays, and not improve care.
“We think they want to take St. Vincent first and then march through every contract in the state and do the same thing,” Jackson said in an interview Wednesday afternoon. “(The Massachusetts Nurses Association) are holding the Worcester community hostage to try and make this happen, and using nurses as pawns so they can push this agenda to St. Vincent’s and across the state.”
