Man sues Edison s Entertainment Complex over icy slip, fall

EDWARDSVILLE The owners of the Edison s Entertainment Complex are being sued by a man who claims he slipped on ice while entering the property.  Ronald Shafer filed a complaint Dec. 10 in the Madison County Circuit COurt against The E-Zone at Sunset Hills LLC, doing business as Edison s Entertainment Complex, alleging negligence.  According to the complaint, Shafer claims he suffered injuries, including injuries to his right hand, after slipping on ice and liquid that had accumulated at the entrance to the Edison s Entertainment Complex located in Edwardsville on Dec. 14, 2019.  Shafer alleges he suffered pain as well as the accumulation of medical bills due to the alleged fall.

Former Jones Lang Lasalle worker alleges age discrimination

Pixabay EDWARDSVILLE  A former Jones Lang Lasalle Americas employee claims he was discriminated against because of his age and then fired in retaliation.   Mark Petkus filed a complaint Dec. 11 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Jones Lang Lasalle Americas Inc., and Sean Coser, alleging violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and Intentional Interference of Economic Advantage.  According to the complaint, Petkus claims he was working at a facility in Madison County that was managed by Jones Lang Lasalle when he was 56 years old. He alleges he was treated differently than younger employees and suffered from a hostile work environment and harassment due to his age. 

Man claims he fell into former drainage ditch at Collinsville Casey s General Store

EDWARDSVILLE A man claims he fell into a former drainage ditch at a Collinsville Casey s General Store and suffered ankle, knee and shoulder injuries.  Tyrone Taylor filed a complaint Dec. 17 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Casey s General Stores Inc., and Casey s Retail Company, alleging negligence.  According to his complaint, Taylor was at Casey s General Stores on North Bluff Road in Collinsville on Oct. 29. He alleges he parked his truck in the dedicated area of the parking lot when he stepped into what was apparently a one-time drainage ditch and fell.  Taylor claims he suffered injuries to his right ankle, knee and shoulder. He alleges Casey s General Stores negligently failed to remove or fill the ditch/canal, failed to place grate or cover over the depressed area and failed  to warn about the trip hazard.  

Legal malpractice suit alleges attorney failed to obtain signature on will

EDWARDSVILLE Two sisters are suing an attorney for allegedly failing to obtain a signature on their mother s will, resulting in a portion of her estate going to their late brother s children.  Colleen Wilkerson and Sharon Hudlin-Morris filed a complaint Dec. 9 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Edward McCarthy. According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are the two surviving daughters whose mother died in 2020. They allege that their mother retained McCarthy to draft her will in 2012 and then again in 2018 after their brother died. They further allege their mother wished her estate to go to them and that no portion of their mother s estate was to go to her then late son s children.

(WAFF) - In 2019 Lionel Francis was convicted of capital murder in the shooting death of his 20-month-old daughter. He was originally facing the death penalty, but a new decision will change his sentence to life without parole. According to court documents, the jury recommended that Francis be sentenced to death. The Madison Circuit Court accepted the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Francis to death. Now the Alabama court of criminal appeals has vacated the death sentence, saying that for the death penalty to be applied, there must be evidence of an aggravating circumstance.
