Macoupin County Fair Board President Kim Carney Rhodes, pictured at the fairgrounds in Carlinville, said her board will have safety provisions in place for this year’s event planned June 8-12. HIGHLAND Following last summer’s season devoid of livestock judging, carnival rides and grandstand entertainment the area’s county fairs are chomping at the bit to bring back the annual community events that celebrate our shared agricultural heritage.

Fair season in Illinois was nonexistent last year thanks to the coronavirus, but the local U of I Extension 4-H Program Coordinator says this year looks favorable and the kids in 4H will have a chance to compete. Angie Abernathy tells The Big Z they have been advised to plan for in-person shows at the local county fairs. The Madison County Fair will be held the final week of July.
