Officers were called to the scene at Asda in Harpurhey, Manchester, on Wednesday night. Blessing Mukaukirwa, 32, of no fixed abode, was later charged with single counts of driving while disqualified, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, using a vehicle with unauthorised blue lights and failing to appear at court. The Zimbabwean national appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and admitted offences of driving while disqualified and with no insurance. He was jailed after his convictions activated a suspended sentence imposed by magistrates in June 2019 for other driving offences. Traffic officers had earlier tweeted that the vehicle arrived at the supermarket with blue flights flashing and the occupants went inside to do their shopping.

A family were caught using an ambulance complete with flashing blue lights while on a shopping trip to Asda, police have said.
Officers in Manchester seized the second-hand vehicle after a member of public reported the group as they arrived at a supermarket branch in the Harpurhey area on Wednesday.
A 32-year-old man, identified by police as Blessing Mukaukirwa, was later charged with multiple driving offences and appeared at court yesterday.

A man has been jailed after a second-hand ambulance carrying a family was stopped by police near a supermarket.
Blessing Mukaukirwa, 32, of no fixed address, was stopped near Asda in Harpurhey, Manchester, on Wednesday.
The Zimbabwean national appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court where he admitted offences of driving while disqualified and with no insurance.
He was jailed for 32 weeks after his convictions activated a suspended sentence for other driving offences.
Traffic officers had earlier tweeted that the vehicle arrived at the supermarket with blue flights flashing and was reportedly carrying a family.
Scaffold tower
A Bury roofing supplies firm and its Rochdale director have been fined after two workers fell from a tower scaffold, sustaining serious injuries.
Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard how on 27 November 2018, two employees of Rooffabs Direct Ltd had been working with Paul McMahon, the sole director of the company, to install signage at retail premises on Bury New Road, Prestwich.
The employees used a tower scaffold to carry out the work. During the afternoon, when Mr McMahon was no longer on site, the tower scaffold moved away from the building and the two employees fell approximately two metres, suffering fractures to their legs and ankles.
