San Saba County Pecan Field Day May 3rd

Monday May 3 rd at the San Saba Civic Center. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the program beginning at 9 o’clock. There will be a $40.00 registration for those who pre-register and $60.00 at the door. An enchilada lunch will be provided by Pepperbelly’s Restaurant. Speakers for this year’s program: Neal Alexander, San Saba County Extension Agent, Laws and Regulations; Monte Nesbitt, Extension Horticulture Specialist, College Station will discuss Pecan Integrated Pest Management; Monte will also present Pecan Pathology and will discuss Pecan Show-Show Stoppers; Colton Ploch, Graduate Assistant Extension Horticulture, Pecan Fertilization; and Stephen Janak, Extension Horticulture Specialist, Orchard Floor Management.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the San Saba County Pecan Growers Association host the field day, which includes speakers, vendors, and workshops.  Registration is at 8 a.m. The program begins at 9 a.m. You can pre-register by calling the San Saba County Extension Office at 325-372-5416 by noon Friday, April 23. While the South Texas zone is already open for spring turkey season, activity across much of the state will officially begin April 3, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Wild Turkey Program Leader Jason Hardin. Program to focus on pest, orchard floor management Apr 05, 2021 The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Williamson County will present a Pecan Field Day on April 9 for anyone involved or interested in pecan production.  The free event will be from 10 a.m. to about 1 p.m. at Georgetown Pecan Company Orchards, 1300 County Road 150, Georgetown. Attendees are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring a lawn chair in order to comfortably listen to program speakers. The program will offer two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one integrated pest management and one general – for those attendees with private applicator licenses.

Regional Pecan Field Day set for next week

Pecan Field Day, which includes a grafting workshop, will be held next week in Waco. The event will start at 8 a.m. April 7 at Russell Pecans, 12633 Gholson Road in Waco. The event is hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Hill, Limestone and McLennan counties. Registration, which costs $10, will open at 8:30 a.m. One PM CEU will be offered. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chair.
