Mourners gather at vigil to honor life of college freshman found dead under suspicious circumstances

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (FOX 2) - Taylor Derosa, an 18-year-old freshman at Grand Valley State University was found dead last Saturday.
A runner discovered her body near an intramural field on campus. Investigators have not yet determined how she died, they are calling her death suspicious.

On Friday night hundreds of people gathered at Royal Oak High School, Taylor Derosa s alma mater, to say good-bye. She loved with every ounce and fiber of her being and it showed, said one of the mourners.

Grand Valley State University says they are seeing a ten percent increase in nursing school applications.
Dean of GVSU s Kirkoff College of Nursing says students are called to serve due to the COVID-19 pandemic or for financial stability.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing says their enrollment data will be available in January.

From the Associated Press Police investigating the death of a Grand Valley State University student whose body was found last week on campus are asking for the community’s patience as they await toxicology results. Campus police said Thursday that a toxicology report on 18-year-old Taylor DeRosa may not be available until “well into the new year.” The Grand Rapids Press reports that
DeRosa, a first-year student from the Detroit area, was found dead by a runner on December 12 near sports fields on the Allendale campus. School President Philomena Mantella said Tuesday that there is “much we do not know about the cause of her death.”

ALLENDALE, Mich. (AP) Police investigating the death of a Grand Valley State University student whose body was found last week on campus are asking for the community’s patience as they await toxicology results.
Campus police said Thursday that a toxicology report on Taylor DeRosa, 18, may not be available until “well into the new year,” the Grand Rapids Press reported.

Such reports usually involve examining a person’s blood and organs for toxins, alcohol, controlled substances and other factors that might cause or contribute to someone’s death.
The university’s police chief, Brandon DeHaan, asked the campus community Thursday for patience as the investigation into DeRosa’s death continues.
