31yo charged as man fights for life after alleged assault

Premium Content UPDATE 5.45am Monday:  A 31-year-old Maroochydore man is expected to face court today following the alleged serious assault of a man early Saturday morning.  A 50-year-old Kuluin man was in critical condition at Royal Brisbane Women s Hospital after he suffered serious head injuries around 1.30am Saturday.  Police investigations suggest the man was punched in the face before falling backwards on a hard surface.  A 31-year-old has been charged with grievous bodily harm, possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils.  He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, December 21.  Earlier, Sunday:  A man is fighting for his life after he was allegedly seriously assaulted on the Sunshine Coast early Saturday morning.

Police provide evidence to driver charged over beach crash

Premium Content Subscriber only A brief of evidence has been given to the lawyers acting for a teenager charged of his friend s death at Teewah Beach, a court has heard. Police allege Mackenzie Liam Simpson was dangerously driving a Toyota Landcruiser on Teewah Beach on August 23 when it rolled, killing Bray Park teen Tyreece Pilot. Mr Simpson, 19, was not required to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday when the matter was mentioned. He is facing one count of dangerously operating a vehicle causing death. Police prosecutor Phillip Stephens said a full brief of evidence had been provided to Mr Simpson s lawyers Ajis Legal on November 27.

Coast mum claims marijuana plants popped up in yard

Marijuana plants were “popping up randomly” in her garden, and while she had previously been disposing of them, she decided to let them grow and watered them after learning they would help her sleep. Mountford’s defence lawyer told the court Mountford’s partner and dad had died since the start of the year. The court heard she had not seen a doctor before treating her sleeping problem with the drug, but she had now stopped and was seeking medical treatment. Mountford, who works at a local fruit shop, was a “hardworking and contributing” member of society, her lawyer said.

Woman threatened ex, called him a c--- during drunken fight

Premium Content Subscriber only A late-night, drunken tirade outside an ex-partner s unit last month has cost a Coast woman $800. Shara-Lace Hubbard, 33, was charged with committing a public nuisance after she showed up drunk at her old unit just after midnight on November 18. The man living in the unit called the police after he refused to let her inside to pick up her belongings and she caused a scene. The court heard she was yelling obscene language, and called the man a c -. She then threatened to have people come around and do a run through of the unit. When police arrived she was lying on the ground next to the door, after being pushed out when she tried get past the man.
