MARTHA S VINEYARD, MA The pace of coronavirus vaccinations has slowed somewhat in the United States., but the country continues to administer more than 2.5 million doses daily. Dukes County is below the national average for percentage of adults who are fully vaccinated.
The United States recently hit two important coronavirus vaccine milestones as the number of cases, deaths and hospitalizations steadily declined for two weeks.
More than half of U.S. adults have received at least one vaccine dose and more than eight out of 10 residents 65 and older have been vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 38 percent of the adult population is fully vaccinated.

Aquinnah, Chilmark, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and Tisbury Fire Departments are five of nearly 300 fire departments in Massachusetts that have been awarded grants for new safety equipment. (Shutterstock)
MARTHA S VINEYARD, MA Five Martha s Vineyard fire departments have been awarded state grants for new safety equipment.
Aquinnah Fire Department has received $8,485, Chilmark Fire Department has received $7,779, Edgartown Fire Department has received $9,876, Oak Bluffs Fire Department has received $9,929, and Tisbury Fire Department has received $10,000.
The funding, provided by the Department of Fire Services Fiscal Year 2021 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program, allows the department to choose between 114 different types of protective equipment, including personal protective clothing, gear washers and dryers, thermal imaging cameras, assorted hand tools and extrication equipment, communications resources, hazardous gas meters, and fitness equipment.
