Google s Pixel Feature Drop was recently launched to better optimize usage for Pixel users and improve smart features. One of the features is Adaptive charging, which allows your device to slowly top up overnight in order to utilize and preserve battery life.
According to Google s Support Document, it dynamically controls how quickly a Pixel device charges. Set an alarm and the Adaptive Charging will work its magic . The feature is accessible in Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 devices.

As a part of the December Pixel Feature Drop, Google announced a new feature for select Pixel phones called Adaptive Charging. The idea for Adaptive Charging was to offer a solution that could help
take care of your battery by charging it steadily over a long period of time rather than quickly.
I’m not sure there was a lot of confusion about how Adaptive Charging would work (we assumed it worked at night and trickle charged a phone), but a Google support page for the feature lays out exactly when your Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, or Pixel 5 will try and trigger it.

One of the interesting new things that Pixel owners are getting from the feature drop announced this month is something called Adaptive Charging. It basically slows down charging your phone while you’re sleeping to preserve your battery health which is a good thing for those who like to plug in their phones overnight. But it looks like there might be a small caveat as it will only work for a certain period when your alarm is scheduled to go off.
Usually, when you sleep and charge your device, you won’t mind if it charges slowly as you’re not using it anyway. So this new feature for Pixel phones will steadily charge it so as to prolong your battery life as it will maintain the original capacity over time. The Adaptive Charging mode can be enabled and disabled through Settings > Battery > Adaptive Battery > Adaptive Charging. You’ll see if it’s active through a note at the bottom of the Ambient / Always-on Display.

The Pixels received the December feature drop recently. The feature in this drop is Adaptive Charging. The Google Pixel Adaptive Charging feature preserves batter health by controlling the speed at which your Pixel charges. This keeps your battery health optimal which will extend the overall life of your battery. However, it only works during certain hours as 9to5Google points out.
This feature works by steadily charging your device over a period of several hours. As a result of not charging your battery as quickly as possible, the battery’s health doesn’t get affected as much.

For the second month in a row, Google’s monthly Android update for the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G on Verizon has been delayed a week. While all of Google’s other phones received the December Android update last week, the newest phones from Google on Verizon should see that same update starting today.
Verizon posted changelogs for each phone’s update this morning, showing builds of RQ1A.201205.008 (Pixel 5) and RQ1D.201205.012.A1 (Pixel 4a 5G).
This may be the December security update, but don’t forget that this also happens to be the December Pixel Feature Drop. So not only are Verizon Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G owners getting fresh security, they are getting a long list of new features.
