Finger Lakes Health announces nursing leadership updates

Staff reports The Chronicle-Express PENN YAN – Finger Lakes Health has announced updates to nursing leadership which have taken place over the past several months. Jessica J. Coon, BSN, RN has been named Nurse Manger of Emergency Services. Coon has been with Finger Lakes Health for almost four years, starting as a staff nurse Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Department. In 2019 she was promoted to Emergency Department Clinical Coordinator. Coon earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Finger Lakes Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY Brockport. Coon lives in Penn Yan. Katie DeMitry, BSN, RN has been named Nurse Manager of 2West and 3North at Geneva General Hospital. DeMitry began as a registered nurse at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in 2015. In 2017, she was named Nurse Manager at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital where she oversaw the 1st Acute medical unit and was involved in developing the Swing Bed program. D

Papsidero, M.D. has joined the medical staffs at Geneva General Hospital, 196 North Street, Geneva, and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, 418 North Main Street, Penn Yan as a hospitalist. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Southern Colorado Family Medicine in Pueblo, Colorado and earned his medical degree at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY. Prior to coming to Finger Lakes Health, he was a hospitalist at Northwest Permanente in Portland, OR.

Finger Lakes Health is a not-for-profit health system that delivers care to all members of our community, regardless of their ability to pay. In 2019, $1.97 million in financial aid (underwriting healthcare for patients in our community who are unable to pay for needed services) was provided at Geneva General and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospitals. That charity care, coupled with the health system’s other community benefit, totaled $11.72 million in 2019.

Free mobility screenings set for Feb 18

Free mobility screenings set for Feb. 18 MPNnow Finger Lakes Health Rehabilitation Services will conduct free mobility screenings for patients ages 65 and older on Feb. 18 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, 418 N. Main St., Penn Yan, and Geneva General Hospital, 196 North St. The 30-minute screenings examine patients’ fall risk, strength deficits and balance issues. Tests take place in the rehabilitation department at Soldiers & Sailors and Garnsey Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Geneva General.  Screenings are held on the third Thursdays of the month.
