A human rights organisation has approached the Gauhati High Court seeking proper legal aid for those left out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
The Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) petitioned the court after its survey of 10 District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) establishments revealed they were understaffed with under-trained para legal volunteers and poor infrastructure.

The Lok Adalat conducted by the District Legal Services Authority headed by its chairman and Principal District Judge Y. Lakshmana Rao saw the reunion of three couples separated several years ago.
Mr. Lakshmana Rao, who spoke at the inaugural meeting of virtual Lok Adalat at Machilipatnam, said that the very purpose of the adalat was fulfilled as three couples from three different faiths reunited, ending marital disputes that lasted for years.
The couples, Tatapudi Solomon Raju and Sirisha, S. Rajitha and Veera Venkata Narasimha Swamy and Samareen Fathima and Md. Iyub Khan exchanged garlands at the meeting. They were also presented with new clothes by officials.
Srinagar: World Day of Social Justice is a United Nations designated day observed every year on February 20. Social justice refers to equal opportunities, distribution of wealth, healthcare facilities and privileges within a society.
The theme of this year World Day of Social Justice-2021 is ‘A Call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy’.
