SAMAA - Sheikhupura shop sets Pakistan s highest record for rent

In an auction held by the District Municipal Corporation, a ten-foot shop in Sheikhupura s monthly rent was eventually fixed at a whopping Rs1.25 billion after four marathon hours of bidding. DMC Sheikhupura has started auctions to rent out its shops in an effort to increase its income. The bids to rent the shop started from Rs22,000 – its last rent. But the auction ended in a competition between two traders, who kept bidding higher and higher to eventually hit Rs1.25 billion.   Ahmed Khursheed, who won the auction, was frustrated with the administration for letting the process take an ugly turn. He said that his father started a crockery business at the same shop sixty.

DMC East parks director told to take proper care of animals kept in mini zoo Karachi April 4, 2021 The Sindh High Court has directed the director of parks of the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) East to regularly visit the parks and watch whether or not the animals being kept in a mini zoo are being properly taken care of. Hearing a petition seeking a better environment for monkeys kept in a public park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, the court observed that director parks had the job description to regularly visit the parks and to see whether the animals being kept in the mini zoo were being maintained properly or not and also to take necessary measures.

Search committee restrained from issuing list of final candidates for JSMU vice chancellor post Karachi April 1, 2021 The Sindh High Court (SHC) has restrained the search committee from making the final list of candidates for the post of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) vice chancellor (VC) till further orders. The interim order came on a petition filed by Dr Mohammad Umar Farooq challenging the formation of the search committee in absence of a chairman and shortlisting the candidates for JSMU VC. The petitioner submitted that he had applied for the post with all the required professional documents. He submitted that the search committee meeting was to be convened under its chairman on March 16; however, the meeting was convened without the chairman of the committee who is stated to be out of country.
