Benjamin Maurice Mitzel, 24, of Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony violating the predatory offender registration law and felony escape from custody.
According to court records, on Jan. 30, a Detroit Lakes police officer discovered that Mitzel had cut his GPS-monitoring ankle bracelet and taken off.
The ankle bracelet was tracked to its last reported position, at Holiday convenience store in Detroit Lakes, where it was found in a garbage can.

Jerry Anthony Crawford, 48, of rural Alexandria, has had his supervised probation extended one year on a felony check forgery charge from 2010.
According to court records, from September of 2009 through January of 2010, he took check blanks from several accounts belonging to the woman he lived with, and used them to write $8,905 in checks, mostly to himself.

Gary Lee Bruguier, 42, of White Earth, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
According to court records, on Oct. 29, 2020, a deputy noticed a man that looked like Bruguier’s cousin at the Holiday gas station. The man was wearing a COVID-19 facemask, so the officer wasn’t sure, but saw him drive off alone, and knew that his license was suspended.

Court news: Probation extended for Lake Park man convicted of wildfire arson

Probation has been extended for one year for a one-time Lake Park firefighter sentenced in 2016 for setting a number of grass fires in 2014.
Michael Lyn Gullard, 41, of Lake Park, appeared Feb. 25, 2016, before Becker County District Judge Joe Evans, who sentenced him to 13 months in prison, stayed five years. He was ordered to serve 25 days in jail and pay a $1,000 fine plus $285 in court fees. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
