The rallying cries and words of protest from Elizabeth City will soon be cemented in the downtown of the coastal North Carolina community.  On Monday, Elizabeth City s City Council approved a street mural for the stretch of Colonial Avenue near the Public Safety building and Pasquotank County Sheriff s Office to memorialize the Andrew Brown Jr. case, which has thrown the small community into the national spotlight.

The city council in Elizabeth City has voted to hire a painter to paint the message ‘BLACK LIVES MATTER’ on the street in front of the Sheriff department over the death of Andrew Brown Jr, who was shot by police as he attempted to run them over with this car. MY FOX 8 – Elizabeth City will hire an artist to paint the words “Black Lives Matter” on the street that runs past the Pasquotank County Public Safety building. Elizabeth City City Council voted 5-1 Monday night to move forward with the idea brought by Councilman Darius Horton, who said the city needs to send a message to those still upset by the killing of Andrew Brown Jr. by county sheriff’s deputies back on April 21.
