SANTA ANA (CBSLA) A former Orange County Sheriff’s deputy pleaded guilty Friday to filing a false police report for failing to submit evidence into booking.
Angelina Cortez, 41, was charged with one felony count last September after prosecutors said she took a credit card from a suspect and later gave it to her son who then used it.
Over the objection of prosecutors, an Orange County Superior Court judge reduced the charge to a misdemeanor and sentenced Cortez to 120 hours of community service and one year informal probation, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

LOS ANGELES Los Angeles County’s new district attorney, George Gascón, is facing major pushback from his own prosecutors and sharp criticism from his Orange County counterpart. Targeted are his extreme liberal policies, including ending cash bail, refusal to prosecute quality of life crimes, and the death penalty.
Orange County, Calif. District Attorney Todd Spitzer argued Thursday Gascón has gone “so far off the reservation” with his policies.
“I’m very concerned. Mr. Gascón was very transparent and very clear that he was going to implement these reforms when he ran for office. He was elected to do this. This is a decision that Los Angeles made,” Spitzer told “America’s Newsroom” Thursday.
