Jordan said on the night of Dec. 23, 2014, Davis was in a dispute with one of the Pickett family members who he was dating. After several failed attempts to talk to her, Davis allegedly doused the family s home at 1901 Lingo St. in gasoline and set it on fire.
There were five people at home when the fire was set, Jordan said.
Makayla Pickett, 14, who was blind and autistic, died when she was unable to escape the home. Her great aunt, Pamela Pickett, 51, made it out of the home, collapsed in the yard, and later died.
Three other family members, Beverly Pickett, Jasmine Sumpter and Deseree Pickett, were able to escape safely.

WILMINGTON – After consecutive shootings in late February involving juveniles, District Attorney Ben David stressed in a press conference Monday he will try youth as adults for their roles in violent crimes. He called on the community to lock up their weapons, talk to the youth and help end gun violence, the frequency of which he said is currently unlike anything he’s ever seen.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Wilmington Police Chief Donny Williams, New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon, and District Attorney Ben David held a joint media briefing Monday evening and announced arrests in connection with a shooting at Break Time Billiards last month.
âIt has become a nearly nightly occurrence for our officers and deputies to encounter an armed individual when theyâre out there trying to do their jobs,â said Chief Williams as he opened the press conference. âIâve been in this business nearly 29 years and Iâve never seen anything like this.â
