(WDAM) - The latest daily count of new COVID-19 cases in Mississippi came in at less than 100 with no new deaths. The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 97 new coronavirus cases Sunday. In the eight-county Pine Belt, new daily cases dipped to seven. The latest figures brought the state’s total cases and deaths since February 2020 to 306,088 and 7,055, respectively.

COVID-19 in Mississippi: 97 cases, no deaths recorded Sunday

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 97 new cases of COVID-19 and no coronavirus-related deaths Sunday. Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 306,088 cases and 7,055 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.  According to a New York Times database Sunday, at least 748 new coronavirus deaths and 63,840 new cases were reported in the U.S. Over the past week, there has been an average of 65,191 cases per day, an increase of 19% from the average two weeks earlier. There were 15 outbreaks at Mississippi nursing homes as of Sunday. There have been 10,438 cases of the coronavirus in long-term care facilities and 1,972 deaths reported as of Sunday, the latest figures available.
