Crowd record, secret prom : News from around our 50 states

From USA TODAY Network and wire reports Alabama Tuscaloosa: Alabama football has developed a reputation for drawing big crowds to its A-Day spring football game, but even at limited capacity, the 2021 game earned a distinction. Saturday’s attendance of 47,218 is the highest at any U.S. sporting event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Yahoo! Sports. Capacity at Bryant-Denny Stadium was capped at 50%, or a little more than 50,000 fans. Fact check: Autism diagnosis changes over years account for high rate

The claim: Autism has increased by 30,000% in 50 years, is linked to vaccines As states advance in their distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, Americans have continued to discuss what risks could be associated with gaining protection against the virus. One common belief espoused by parents and public figures who are against vaccination is that vaccines cause autism spectrum disorder, despite several studies showing no correlation between childhood vaccination and autism diagnoses. A post popular on Facebook may represent a similar view. The post claims that autism increased 30,000% in 50 years and suggests there is a link between injections and this statistic. Originally posted on April 3, 2020, the post has accrued roughly 1,500 shares.

Mississippi health officer: No link between politics, vaccine hesitancy

Mississippi health officer: No link between politics, vaccine hesitancy By The Associated Press • 8 hours ago JACKSON Mississippi’s top health official said he does not think political party affiliation has an impact on people’s willingness to get the COVID-19 vaccine. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said he talks with equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans who are unsure about getting vaccinated. What he does see making a difference: socio-economic status and education. “It seems to be that folks who are more educated and have higher incomes are way more likely to want to get it,” Dobbs said Friday during an online conversation hosted by the Mississippi State Medical Association. “… If you’re in the top income bracket, and you’re in the top education bracket, you’re like 95 percent going to get vaccinated.”
