The MHSAA released the following guidance Friday night: Face masks are no longer required for any outdoor activity, including the outdoor contact spring sports of soccer and lacrosse. While individuals may opt to wear a face mask, there is no longer a requirement that face masks be worn outdoors by any player, coach, team personnel, official or spectators.

MHSAA issues new guidelines, face masks are no longer required outdoors By Jim Measel May 15, 2021 | 6:15 AM EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan High School Athletic Association has updated their guidelines based on the latest Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Epidemic Order issued on Friday. Face masks are no longer required for any outdoor activity, including the outdoor contact spring sports of soccer and lacrosse. While individuals may opt to wear a face mask, there is no longer a requirement that face masks be worn outdoors by any player, coach, team personnel, official or spectators. For fully vaccinated individuals, face masks are no longer required during indoor activity. The M.D.H.H.S. is defining “fully vaccinated” as 14 days after the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna or 14 days after the single dose of Johnson & Johnson. For all individuals not fully vaccinated, all indoor activity continues to require a face mask.

Former athletes, students and coaches lined up Monday to speak on behalf of longtime Madison athletic director Kris Isom, pleading with the board of education to give Isom a fair shot at a new administrative position the board plans to fill next month.  Isom, who has been the Madison athletic director for 34 years, has served on the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s representative council and was named the statewide AD of the year in 2016. She was informed recently that the position she currently holds and has for decades is being transitioned to a new, K-12 administrative position and that she could apply for it if she wanted.

MHSAA starts girls individual wrestling tourney, sets date for fall sports start By Jim Measel May 6, 2021 8:38 PM EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The addition of a girls division to the Individual Wrestling Tournament series and approval of a common start date for all Fall sports highlighted actions taken by the Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association during its annual Spring Meeting on Monday. Beginning with the 2021-22 school year, a championship division for female competitors will be added to the M.H.S.A.A. Individual Wrestling Tournament series. There will be 14 champions awarded, based on weight classes.
