EAT LANSING, Mich. - High school girls who wrestle will have their own state tournament starting next year.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association is adding a girls division to the individual wrestling tournament. There will be 14 champions based on weight classes.
Girls will continue to compete on boys teams during the regular season and still can choose to wrestle in the boys individual and team tournaments.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association is adding a girls division to the high school wrestling state tournament beginning with the 2021-22 school year.
Fourteen champions will be awarded based on weight class.
The MHSAA says 401 girls competed in wrestling during the 2019-20 school year.

Girls lately have competed against each other in matches organized by the Michigan Wrestling Association.
The number of girls who wrestle at MHSAA schools rose to 401 in the 2019-20 season from 250 in 2017-18.
Bath Township community raising money to help a family facing the loss of their child

BATH TOWNSHIP, Mich. â The Bath Township community is rallying together under the slogan #coopstrong to help support the family of a high school student who died unexpectedly Sunday.
Community members also sought out online donations through
a GoFundMe page to help the Gardner family with hospital costs. Sadly, donors were notified that Gardner passed away Sunday morning in his home after being released from the hospital.
Geoff Kimmerly of the Michigan High School Athletic Association says his heart goes out to the family and the Bath community.
