CANTON Dr. Timothy Crone hit the ground running this week.
The new president of Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital started in the role Tuesday, which included visiting each unit of the Canton hospital and meeting employees. There s a very positive energy here. There s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. It s just been fantastic so far, he said. Honestly, it was a fun day. It was a really fun day yesterday.
The former Mercy Medical Center officially became part of the Cleveland Clinic health system Monday after more than a century as a Sisters of Charity hospital.
The hospital will maintain its Catholic identity through sponsorship by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
Metabolites. The findings reveal that changes in the gut microbiome the rich population of helpful microbes that call the digestive tract home may in turn alter bile acid production by favoring synthesis of toxic forms of the acids.
These shifts were seen only in people with Parkinson s and not in healthy controls, a critical difference that suggests bile acids may be a viable biomarker for diagnosing Parkinson s early and tracking its progression. The insights also may provide new avenues for developing therapies that impede Parkinson s-related changes in the gut, thereby potentially slowing or stopping disease onset and progression.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is celebrating 10 years at its landmark blue building on Michigan Street along Grand Rapids’ Medical Mile.
The 14-story, $286 million building, which has 234-beds and provides treatment to infants, children and adolescents from Michigan and beyond, opened on Jan. 11, 2011.
“Those who saw the need years ago for specialized care for our youngest patients were true visionaries,” Tina Freese Decker, Spectrum’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “Without them, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital would not be the vital community resource it is today.”

Cardiac arrests outside of hospitals went up by 60% during the first 10 weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic over the same period the year before. And there was a 42% jump in deaths from cardiac arrests in the pre-hospital setting.
These were some of the findings of a study of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest records of the Emergency Service Information System in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties from March 23 through May 31, 2020.
Adam Oostema, M.D and associate professor of emergency medicine in the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, co-authored the study.
Oostema said the rise in cardiac arrests and related deaths outside of hospitals is probably due to factors directly and indirectly related to COVID-19.
