The mother of a Hopkinton teenager found dead last month has started a GoFundMe to raise money for an independent investigation into her daughter’s death.
Calvina Strothers, mother of 16-year-old Mikayla Miller, also hopes to use the money to start a scholarship in her daughter’s name.
The fundraiser, created on Thursday, had raised more than half $22,000 of the $40,000 Strothers seeks, as of 1 p.m. Friday. Nearly 500 people had donated.
“I received a knock at my door on Sunday, April 18th that would change my life forever. The officers stated that Mikayla had left the house the night before and prematurely concluded that Mikayla committed suicide without fully completing an investigation and a report from the Medical Examiner,” Strothers wrote. “My heart was broken, my stomach dropped and I had so many questions that were not answered by the police, including releasing information as simple as the police report that I filed on April 17th,
