MINNEAPOLIS (CN) A Hennepin County judge declined to acquit Derek Chauvin or to require George Floyd’s friend to testify on Wednesday morning, leaving Chauvin’s attorney to spend the remainder of the morning on direct examination of his first expert medical witness.

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. – Kim Potter, the officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright at a traffic stop in a Minneapolis suburb, is a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department.
Potter was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree manslaughter, officials said. Washington County Attorney Pete Orput issued a news release with details from the criminal complaint.

Potter is reportedly on administrative leave and has retained a lawyer.
The Medical Examiner’s Office of Brooklyn Center has ruled Wright’s death a homicide, stating, “This individual died of a gunshot wound of the chest and manner of death is homicide. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is the investigating agency.”

Minnesota Chief of Police Tim Gannon has made the claim that Potter accidentally shot and killed Wright by drawing her firearm, but actually intended to pull out her Taser, which is described as an “accidental discharge.”
