The death toll from the partial collapse of a Florida condo building stands at least 11. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced this afternoon another body has been recovered. There are still 150 people unaccounted for five days after the building came down in Surfside near Miami Beach. Officials said their priority is on the search and rescue operation, and that they haven t given up hope of finding survivors.
The number of confirmed deaths due to the collapse of a building in Surfside, Florida near Miami has now reached 11, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said on Monday. Over the past few hours, our first responders did recover another victim. So, in total, the number of people accounted for now stands at 136, with 150 unaccounted for. The number of confirmed deaths is 11, Cava announced during a press conference. Meanwhile, Florida State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said rescue workers are working day and night to find survivors. Over 400 rescue workers are assigned to the search, with about 200 scouring the wreckage at any given time, CNN reported.

The focus in the deadly collapse of a condominium tower in South Florida shifted to the structural integrity of the building as an 11th fatality was reported Monday.
The collapse of the 40-year-old, 12-story Champlain Towers South in Surfside an Atlantic Ocean coastal town of 5,700 about 15 miles north of Miami happened around 1:30 am Thursday.
More than 150 people believed to be in the building at the time are missing.

A massive search and rescue operation entered its fifth day, as crews continued to carefully comb through the pancaked pile of debris in hopes of finding survivors. The partial collapse occurred at around 1:15 a.m. local time last Thursday at the Champlain Towers South condominium in the small, beachside town of Surfside, about 6 miles north of Miami Beach. Approximately 55 of the oceanfront complex s 136 units were destroyed, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Raide Jadallah.
