By Claudia Mendoza There s a new Chief in town. During a private event on Monday morning, Art Acevedo was sworn in as the new City of Miami Police Chief. Acevedo was previously in Houston and led the nation’s fourth-largest police department. Under his command, Acevedo took care of the community during Hurricane Harvey. He also marched with protesters after the death of George Floyd and during the most recent winter storm, Acevedo was there working to keep the people of Texas safe. Usually, this event is open to the public, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, he was joined by his wife and son, city leaders, and law enforcement officials.
