Malaysians abroad cannot be prevented from returning — Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 28): The government cannot prevent Malaysians intending to return home from countries that have recorded new strains of Covid-19, says Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Ismail Sabri said Malaysians living in countries that had a high number of Covid-19 cases have the right to return home. This is the guarantee given in the Constitution and the Immigration Act also states that the government cannot prevent our people from returning home, he said in his daily press conference here today. He said this when asked to comment on the proposal for the government to restrict the entry of travellers including Malaysians from countries that had recorded new strains of Covid-19 such as the United Kingdom, South Africa and Hong Kong.

Covid-19: Operation Jala to be launched in Sarawak, says Uggah

KUCHING (Dec 28): An operation codenamed Ops Jala will be launched in Sarawak in a few days’ time to check illegal entry and prevent illegal immigrants from bringing in Covid-19 infection. The number of positive Covid-19 cases resulting from illegal immigrants is still a big threat that needs to be addressed, said Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas (pictured). Sarawak had gone through several bitter experiences with illegals including four immigrants who ran away from Sibu and two others in Asajaya who fled after being found positive for the infection, he told a press conference here today.

Traffic flow expected to increase tonight, tomorrow, say Bukit Aman | Malaysia

Thursday, 24 Dec 2020 10:36 PM MYT KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 The police expect a 30 to 40 per cent increase in traffic flow along all major highways and roads from midnight till tomorrow in conjunction with the Christmas celebrations. Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Azisman Alias said, however, the traffic remained under control as the public was not rushing to return to their hometowns as in previous celebrations. “Some families have returned to their hometowns earlier, as schools are on leave until the beginning of 2021. “I advise the public not to be complacent as the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic is not over and the Recovery Movement Control Order is still being implemented,” he told Bernama.
