Kumaraswamy, DK Shivakumar slam Centre for challenging K taka HC order to enhance oxygen supply ANI | Updated: May 07, 2021 07:46 IST Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 7 (ANI): Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday hit out at the Centre for challenging the High Court s order to supply 1,200 tonnes of oxygen per day to the state in the Supreme Court, saying that despite being an oxygen-producing state, it was not getting its share. The Central government has challenged the High Court s order to supply 1,200 tonnes of oxygen per day to Karnataka in the Supreme Court. It argued that if the supply of oxygen to Karnataka increases, the health system will collapse, he said in a series of tweets.

Taking to Twitter, the Congress leader claimed that Karnataka s allocated oxygen quota by the central government is less than 50 per cent of the state s demand. He tweeted, Oxygen produced in Karnataka should be reserved for our state only. The allocated oxygen share for Karnataka is less than 50 per cent of the actual demand.

The second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive to inoculate people above 60 years and those over 45 with comorbidities against the coronavirus began from March 1. The third phase began on April 1 for all above 45 years of age.

Kumaraswamy on Tuesday recommended the state government impose a statewide lockdown to contain the surge of Covid-19 cases. A lockdown should be announced immediately as it has become inevitable now, he said while attending the all-party meeting from his room in a private hospital here. Kumaraswmay added that night curfew would not help in curtailing the spread of the infection. Bengaluru and large towns like Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Bidar, and others need to go to lockdown now. We should also prohibit inter-state travel from neighbouring states. Most of our border districts have reported a surge because of this, he said.
