Rogue River State Game Area Closed to Target Shooting Activities

LANSING, Mich. â Target shooting activities have been indefinitely prohibited at the Rogue River State Game Area and its extension unit in Kent County, as well as the west unit of the Muskegon State Game Area in Muskegon County.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources made the announcement Thursday.
An approved land use order implementing the target shooting closure was brought forward because of a growing concern for public safety.
The amount and type of target shooting have increased âsubstantiallyâ at these areas over the last two years, the DNR said.
W. MI State Game Area Bans Target Shooting
If you like to shoot your gun at the Rogue River State Game Area, you will have to find a new location because that shooting range has now been banned.
For hunters looking to site in their guns or gun enthusiast who like to shoot off some rounds for target practice, shooting ranges are hard to come by where you don t have to pay and now the one in Rogue River State Game Area is now not an option.
According to WOOD, people have trashed the shooting area with empty shell casings, homemade targets and piles of trash. Target shooter, James Williams, who has been shooting at Rogue River for more than a decade said, people show up to shoot, and they just leave what they shot up. We took a week once and cleaned the place up. A week later, it was just as bad.

CO Jared Ferguson was traveling south on M-95 when he encountered a motor vehicle traveling 95 mph in a posted 55 miles per hour zone. CO Ferguson was able to stop the vehicle and contact the driver. CO Ferguson asked the driver why he continued at a high rate of speed and didn’t slow down after seeing the patrol vehicle and he stated, “I didn’t think you guys could stop me for speeding, so I didn’t think anything of it.” A citation was issued for speeding.
CO Shannon Kritz worked in conjunction with Wisconsin game wardens to patrol an area of the Menominee River where both states were receiving numerous snagging complaints. CO Kritz contacted one angler who was observed keeping a fish after it had been snagged on top of its head. The angler explained to CO Kritz that he thought he could keep fish as long as they were caught in front of the gill plate. KENT CITY, Mich. Spring cleaning is a seasonal tradition for many, but it occasionally leads to eyesores on state land.
The bounty of discarded items includes couches, televisions, mattresses and household trash. State officials even came upon an abandoned boat.
