NASU, SSANU to commence three-day protest

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) have announced that they will stage a protest from Tuesday, January 12 to Thursday, January 14.
The protests will be held at all branches of Universities and Inter-University centres, with members of both organisations as participants.
The JAC made this known in a statement signed by the NASU General Secretary, Peters A. Adeyemi and the SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim on Friday.

The hope of academic activities kick-starting soon in the nation’s public universities appears threatened as the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT has issued a 14-day strike notice to the Federal Government over the disparity in sharing the N40 billion Earned Allowances that was recently released for the four university-based unions.
This is as the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU has expressed disappointment over the government’s refusal to honor its promise to pay the arrears of the new national minimum wage that was approved since April 2020.
Recall that the Federal Government had allocated 75 percent of the total N40 billion Earned Allowance to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, leaving 25 per cent for the other three unions to share.

NON-teaching staff unions in the universities under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee, JAC, will be holding a crucial meeting on Friday over the recent disparity in the sharing formula of the N40 billion Earned Allowances released by the Federal Government to the four university-based unions.
Also part of the agenda at the meeting will be the problem associated with the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS, the non-implementation of the October 2020 Memorandum of Understanding, MoU between the member unions and government as well as the non-payment of outstanding allowances to members.
