New Delhi, March 15 : Uttar Pradesh s Savita Pal was buoyant on winning her maiden senior women s 10,000 metres race at the Senior National Federation Cup athletics in Patiala on Monday.
The 21-year-old athlete clocked 33 minutes 59.35 seconds to win the race, but her performance was nearly 3.5 minutes slower than the Tokyo Olympic Games qualification time of 31 minutes 25 seconds.
Expressing her satisfaction on winning her first 10,000m track race, Savita said she could have done better, but couldn t train hard due to pandemic.

New Delhi, March 15 : Asian medallist Annu Rani on Monday bettered her own meet record with a throw of 63.24 metres in the women s javelin throw, but fell short of the Tokyo Olympic qualification mark of 64 metres, on the opening day of the Senior National Federation Cup athletics.

New Delhi, March 14 : Haryana sprinter Anjali Devi has pulled out of the women’s 400 metres event of the Senior National Federation Cup athletics due to injury. The competition starts on Monday in Patiala.
The 23-year-old athlete said she had pulled her thigh muscles recently during a training session in Patiala.
“The doctor has advised me to take a break from training for four to six weeks. I’m undergoing rehabilitation. That is why I can’t compete in the first major competition of the season,” Anjali told IANS.

New Delhi, March 14 : The pressure will be on India s top athletes to achieve Tokyo Olympic Games qualification standards during the Senior National Federation Cup athletics meet starting on Monday at Patiala s National Institute of Sports.
In the five-day first major competition of the season, over 500 aspiring athletes from across the country are expected to compete. The biggest draw will be the men s 400 metres that has attracted 54 entries, and of these, 17 are from Haryana. The first round of the men s 400m will take place in the morning session while the semi-finals are slated for the post lunch session.
