Greetings, Shawnee!
This week would have been Dr. Matin Luther King Jr.’s 90th birthday. He left a legacy not only as a civil rights leader, but also as a preacher of the good news of Jesus Christ. Our nation needs the message of love and non-violence in which Dr. King believed.
The Senior Rec Center at 401 N. Bell will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, in honor of MLK Day. We will resume our regular operating hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
Our senior fitness classes for 2021 are back in full swing. We offer Tai Chi, gentle Yoga, chair fitness and more! For a complete schedule, consult our monthly calendar or contact us directly at 405-878-1528.

Good morning, Shawnee! I hope you enjoyed a safe and healthy Christmas! Even though this year has been an unusual one, we can still have hope and stay connected to one another!
During this season, my husband and I enjoy driving around town looking at Christmas lights and holiday displays. There were some great ones this year, especially in the neighborhoods North of Independence, East of Bryan Road, and along Beard and Union Streets. We appreciate everyone in town who took time to celebrate this year by decorating their homes and lawns!

Season’s Greetings Shawnee! Snow and then more snow this past week! Wasn’t it lovely? I really like this type of snow we had, as it was perfect for making snowmen. Nice and white, but it didn’t stick too much to the pavement. So not that large of an impact on travel. I hope you got the see the pretty flakes as they were coming down, and maybe we will even get more soon!
With the holidays right around the corner, we want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season! Merry Christmas to all! We hope you are staying healthy and safe. Be sure to connect with friends and family, even if it is just over the phone or via mail.
