Reps express anger over 5 years unaudited accounts of FMB, TETFUND

ABUJA – The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has expressed displeasure over its discovery of five years unaudited accounts of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMB) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TEFFUND). Rep Oluwole Oke, Chairman of the Committee, conveyed the committee’s anger at the investigative hearing on audit queries by the Auditor-General of Federation (AGF) of Ministries Department and Agencies of government, on Thursday, in Abuja. Oke said that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) had not paid their respective 30 per cent and 20 per cent equity capital as shareholders of the bank, as stipulated by the FMB establishment Act.

Also, the technical team from Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will soon visit your state to identify the site in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa L.G.A. and assess its readiness for commencement of academic activities October 2021,” the letter added.

The agency said the funds will bolster the conduct of cutting-edge researches in tertiary institutions. Executive Secretary of TETFund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, who disclosed this while declaring open a four-Day Meeting of TETFund Research and Development Standing Committee (RDSC) yesterday, said the breakthrough comes two years after the Board of Trustees granted the approval for private institutions to draw from the funds. Bogoro said since the inauguration of the TETFund RDSC on September 24, 2020, the committee has gone far in implementing President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to support government initiatives of responding to the threat of COVID-19 through ground-breaking research on Phyto-medical drugs, prophylactics and vaccines.
