Vanguard News TETFund proposes N8.5 bn research fund for 2021 On By Joseph Erunke – Abuja The Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has approved an increase of the national research fund to the tune of N8.5 billion in 2021 from N7.5 billion. The board also announced a total of N5 billion in special intervention to the University of Lagos, UNILAG, to be captured in the 2021 budget. Chairman, TETFund Board of Trustees, Alhaji Kashim Imam, disclosed this at a 2-day capacity building workshop for heads of beneficiary institutions and staff of TETFund centres of excellence, in Abuja. Imam said the intervention to UNILAG, which was on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari, was also carried out in University of Abuja in 2020.

Infrastructure in higher institutions: TETfund targets N500bn -

By Adesina Wahab THE Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETfund, is targeting the sum of N500 billion next year to help address the issue of provision of infrastructure and other support for tertiary Institutions in the country. This is just as the Fund realized the sum of N251 billion out of the projected N277 billion in the outgoing year. This was disclosed by the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Tet fund,    Hajji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam,  during the TETfund/ FIRS 2020 Joint Interactive Forum held in Lagos. To allow the Fund get more revenue from the Education Development Tax, EDT, the two percent being currently deducted from the profits of quoted companies, may be increased to three percent, as the law that set up the Fund will be amended to that effect.

John Shiklam in Kaduna The Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, has challenged tertiary institutions in Nigeria to focus on researches that would proffer solutions to the country’s economic and technological challenges, rather than theoretical researches that ‘have little or no benefit to the people.’ Speaking when he visited the Research and Development Centre of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna yesterday, Bogoro said tertiary institutions must undertake research with outcomes that solve problems of technology, economy and society. He said the time has come for Nigeria to begin the moves towards self-sufficiency in its weapon production in order to save the future of the country.

The Federal Government through the fund has also approved the sum of N5 billion as special intervention to the University of Lagos to be captured in the 2021 budget.
