ROCHESTER, Minn. - Here in Minnesota, there is a program that protects those who qualify through April 15 called the Heating Assistance Program.
After the 15th, there are still some options to avoid losing your utilities.
Due to the pandemic, many utility companies haven t shut off services in over a year, despite unpaid bills.
Tony Benson with Rochester Public Utilities says the company will not shut off any utilities and is still working with families on payment plans.

KASSON About 80 or so meals a day leave Sunwood Manor in Kasson, all to keep seniors healthy and fed across Dodge County. The people we serve, they re in Kasson, Byron, Mantorville, Dodge Center, Claremont and West Concord, said Kelly Scott, who operates the Meals on Wheels program in Dodge County.
Before COVID-19 hit, the organization had about 65 to 75 clients, but that number is up, closer to 85 or 90 these days, she said. And with that increased need has been a need to find volunteers who will drive meals out to clients who can t get out to feed themselves.

Three Rochester Area Housing Projects Awarded State Funding

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Tim Walz has announced the distribution of $195 million in state assistance for the creation and preservation of nearly 2400 housing units throughout Minnesota.
A total of 73 developments will be supported by the state funding, including three affordable housing projects in the Rochester area. Titan Development is planning a $17.8 million project involving a 72 unit apartment building in southwest Rochester and Joseph Development plans to build a $15.6 million, 66 unit, apartment complex in northeast Rochester. Three Rivers Community Action will also receive state funds to assist in a $4.2 million rehabilitation of 24 apartment units at Knollwood Apartments in Pine Island.
Two controversial topics are scheduled for the City Council to discuss on Monday.
