Intel Ice Lake Server Chips Lean on Secure Enclaves, FPGA Acceleration

As inter-gen performance gains shrink, 3rd gen Intel Xeon Scalable messaging highlights hardware security and co-processor performance. With inter-generation performance gains of the Intel Ice Lake server chips (3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable) unremarkable in comparison to what they used to be when Moore’s Law was in full effect, the company’s messaging around the new data center processor family’s launch focused on its much improved secure enclaves capabilities and its effectiveness when using FPGA accelerators. Intel has fought the CPU battle with AMD before. For years, AMD led that battle on price/performance, building surpluses of mid-range processors with performance just good enough to tip the scales, while Intel countered with world-class manufacturing and upper-tier performance that some thought was worth the premium investment. Earlier this month AMD launched its own third-generation Zen architecture and the performance numbers it shared with reporters appeared to

Cisco, Dell and Lenovo debut new servers based on Intel s 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable processors

SHARE Data center infrastructure providers Cisco Systems Inc., Dell Technologies Inc. and Lenovo Group Ltd. all announced refreshed server lineups today that feature Intel Corp.’s new 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The new Intel chips launched today are based on an improved architecture that’s said to provide built-in acceleration for a range of data center workloads, together with advanced security technologies such as Software Guard Extensions and Total Memory Encryption. They also pack the latest version of Intel’s Optane persistent memory modules. Cisco said the 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable chips will power its new Unified Computing System servers that are designed for “increasingly complex hybrid cloud environments.” The company announced three new models, including the Cisco UCS B200 M6, C220 M6 and C240 M6 servers that enable increased performance, enhanced security and improved efficiency for workloads such as virtual desktop infrastructure, databases, a

Review: Intel Xeon Platinum 8380 Processor 2P (Ice Lake) - CPU

Introduction and Architecture Intel is today announcing a significant update to its datacentre portfolio. Built on the pillars of moving data faster, storing more and processing everything, there are new SSDs, Optane Memory, Ethernet, FPGAs and, of course, Xeon CPUs. The very fact that focus is not wholly on a new slew of 3rd Generations Xeons is telling in itself. Intel sees the portfolio s hardware launches as synergistic - more than the sum of the parts - and Xeon CPUs have only an equal standing in this line of thinking. Yet Intel launching a host of Xeon processors armed with a raft of improvements is a big deal in this segment, particularly as the release comes hot on the heels of AMD launching its fastest-ever 3rd Gen Epyc processors. We can finally compare one company s best against the other.

AMI TruE Trusted Environment Platform Security Solution Supports Intel® SGX and Intel® Security Libraries for Data Center (Intel® SecL-DC) Features in 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors

® , a global leader in powering, managing and securing the world s connected digital infrastructure, is pleased to feature support for Intel ® Software Guard Extensions (SGX) and Secure Key Caching Use Case supported in Intel ® Security Libraries for Data Center (Intel ® SecL-DC) in its AMI TruE™ Trusted Environment Platform Security Solution, as implemented in the latest 3rd Gen Intel ® Xeon ® Scalable Processors announced today by Intel Corporation. As security threats and attacks increase on a near daily basis, firmware security has come into sharper focus - along with the need to keep devices secure at the platform level. These growing threats are particularly critical for cloud service providers and data centers, who have a fundamental need to know a platform is secure before entrusting it with sensitive data and workload operations.
