Ambassador’s Special Self Help (ASSH) Small Grants Program.
ASSH program is a grassroots assistance program that funds grants for small development activities that generate public awareness of U.S. foreign assistance efforts which fall outside the structure of other established U.S. assistance projects.
The program is intended to be flexible and allow the Ambassador to respond directly to requests from local communities for assistance with projects that have immediate impact and further Mission priorities. Equally important, the Special Self-Help program is structured to encourage communities to be self-reliant and undertake similar activities on their own in the future.

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Research Programs is accepting applications for the Fellowships for Advanced Social Science Research on Japan program. The purpose of this program is to promote Japan studies in the United States, to encourage U.S.-Japanese scholarly exchange, and to support the next generation of Japan scholars in the U.S.
The fellowships are designed for individual researchers with advanced Japanese language skills whose research will require use of data, sources, and documents, onsite interviews, or other direct contact in Japanese. Fellows may undertake their projects in Japan, the United States, or both, and may include work in other countries for comparative purposes. The program is a joint activity of the Japan-United States Friendship Commission (JUSFC) and the NEH.
