Western Iowa Tech Police Science students walk 4 62 miles to honor fallen State Trooper

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - This week marks Law Enforcement Memorial Week, and today students from Western Iowa Tech s Police Science Program took a trek through Sioux City for a very special cause. The Law Enforcement Students along side members of the Sioux City Police Department, The Woodbury County Sheriff s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol walked the 4.62 miles from Western Iowa Tech Community College to the Law Enforcement Memorial in Downtown Sioux City. The walk was part of a challenge from the Iowa State Patrol to walk, run, or Bike 4.62 miles in honor of fallen State Trooper Sergeant Jim Smith whos badge number 462.

Police Chief plans to retire at end of June

He informed city leaders of the decision this week and spoke to the Kossuth County Advance about the decision Friday morning. Pals, the chief since being appointed in 2016 by then Mayor Lynn Kueck, has served the city in law enforcement either as an officer, reserve or chief for 38 years, said he has three things he wants to accomplish in retirement - continuing to be a member of the workforce in some manner, do more volunteer work and do more recreational things. A native of Rock Rapids, Pals first came to Algona in June 1980 after graduating from Western Iowa Tech community college in Sioux City and working at night as an officer in Whiting, Iowa. He was an officer from 1980 to 1997, then served as a reserve while working for Hormel, and then at the end of 2005 returned to the police force. He also worked part-time as an officer

Iowa Wesleyan, SCC Alliance Expands Online College Opportunities

February 5, 2021 West Burlington, Ia- For the first time in its history, the Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC) will add a 4-year university to its membership. Iowa Wesleyan University will become part of the ICCOC as a Tier 4 partner beginning in the summer of 2021. As a Tier 4 partner, Iowa Wesleyan will share the ICCOC LMS, Canvas by Instructure, and many of the additional resources available to all ICCOC partner colleges. Seven Iowa community colleges joined together to form the ICCOC in 1999 as a way to provide online learning opportunities to community college students while reducing overall operational costs. Eastern Iowa Community College, Iowa Lakes Community College, North Iowa Area Community College (Tier 3 Partner), Northwest Iowa Community College, Southeastern Community College, Southwestern Community College and Western Iowa Tech now share educational resources and strive to provide a high-quality online learning experience.

SPM NEWS 1.14.20 - 3:04PM Siouxland is gearing up for the second Blizzard Warning in three weeks.  The warning starts tonight at 6 and extends until 6 p.m. tomorrow.  The forecast calls for 3 to 8 inches by tomorrow afternoon, with wind gusts as high as 60 miles per hour. On social media, the National Weather Service says the severity of the storm will depend on how much snow falls. If we see more than an inch on the group with additional blowing snow, conditions will be more significant, especially for portions of Iowa and Minnesota.
