The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry recently created an international multipurpose virtual learning and networking platform, focused on aligning manufacturing and retail businesses to the requirements of a ‘new norm’.
Close to 220 business representatives from across 27 countries participated, facilitating around 135 business meetings among 63 manufacturing and retail operators, 78 service providers, 20 stakeholders and over 15 EU- funding project experts.
As part of its efforts to help companies innovate and grow with the support of Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), The Malta Chamber helped operators explore ways how to reinvent themselves with the aim of optimising use of technology and work processes, while facilitating their preposition to penetrate international markets.
Bank of Valletta will start clearing US dollar transactions through Western Union Business Solutions, the bank confirmed in a company announcement on Thursday.
The bank has been struggling to find a long-term solution after Deutsche Bank, ING and Raiffeisen Bank terminated their relationship with Malta or stopped offering US dollars transactions to BOV.
In the announcement, BOV said it is already receiving payments through Western Union Business Solutions from two major US dollar clearers.
The bank said the full transition from Raiffeisen Bank International to Western Union Business Solutions is planned for the week starting May 10.
In a separate announcement, the bank said it had made a pre-tax profit of €9.3 million in the first quarter of this year.

ASX to rise, Dow lifts in broad rally

Australian shares are poised to open higher, lifted by overseas gains and on expectations that the RBA will not announce any changes after a policy meeting on Tuesday.
ASX futures were up 11 points or 0.2 per cent to 7015 near 6.15am AEST. The currency was 0.6 per cent higher.
The yield on the US 10-year note slid 2 basis points to 1.60 per cent near 4.30pm in New York.
On Wall Street, stocks were mixed with the Dow and S&P 500 higher, while techs dragged down the Nasdaq. The NYSE Fang + Index was 1.2 per cent lower.

Malta’s Chamber of Commerce, known simply as the Malta Chamber, will work alongside international money transfer giant and household name Western Union Business Solutions (WUBS) as part of a new initiative to improve supply chain procedures and cross-border payments access for Maltese businesses.
One area that the partnership will look at is expected to be the security of worldwide transactions – and it is likely to also focus in particular on trade ecosystems.
