Local News: April 19th, 2021

Here’s a look at some local news brought to by Silver City Radio. The New Mexico Department of Health has announced today that vaccineNM.org registrants who are 40 years and older can now schedule their own COVID-19 vaccine appointments. According to a release, users simply log in to vacconeNM.org using their conformation code and date of birth, choose their location, and then select from available appointments in their area. Event codes for New Mexicans 40 and older are no longer required, though they are required for younger populations. In addition, if the user does not immediately find an available appointment, the NMDOH encourages them to check back again. Providers are continually updating their appointment schedules. Seniors and those with disabilities can also call 1-800-432-2080 for support with registration and scheduling.

Gov Lujan Grisham signs capital outlay bill, funding local projects

LAS CRUCES - The capital outlay bill signed last week by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham includes more than $28 million in funding for projects in Doña Ana County, as well as millions for other projects in southern New Mexico. The bill funds more than $511 million in projects throughout the state, including roughly $64 million for water and wastewater improvements, $53 million for roads, $49 million for higher education, $48 million for public safety and $8 million for acequias, dams, and ditches. There is also $12.5 million to support Local Economic Development Act projects and $10 million for health facilities and prisons. Lujan Grisham used her line-item veto authority to strike less than two percent of the projects included in the bill, explaining in a news release that the projects she vetoed lacked proper planning, had unused funds from previous years or were not large enough to qualify for capital appropriation.
