Tracy Brabin, MP for Batley and Spen and Labour s candidate for West Yorkshire Mayor TRACY Brabin has been chosen as Labour s West Yorkshire Mayor candidate ahead of next May s election. Labour members in the county have been casting their votes in recent weeks, and Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin has beaten off stiff competition from Bradford Council leader and leader of West Yorkshire Combined Authority Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe and Hugh Goulbourne to win the nomination. She will go up against the Green Party s Andrew Cooper and the Yorkshire Party s Bob Buxton at the election next May. The candidates for the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and any other political parties have yet to be announced.
A SCHEME that will see Holme Wood and Apperley Bridge become “future growth locations” has been approved. West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s “Spatial Priority Areas” were agreed at a meeting yesterday, and the two areas of Bradford have been classed as areas where there could be large housing developments, or the creation of large scale employment developments. The Canal Road Corridor is classed as an “Investment Location” - a site where future housing and employment development should be encouraged and Shipley and Keighley area areas that will be targeted for regeneration.
Bradford is classed as a “main urban centre” while Leeds is referred to as the region’s “core city.”
