One dead in Hurricane townhouse fire

HURRICANE, W.Va. — A townhouse fire turned fatal Tuesday night, claiming the life of one man. Crews responded to reports of smoke rising from a townhouse on the 300 block of Fairway Garden Drive in Hurricane just after 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Upon arrival, crews were able to extinguish and contain the flames mostly to one floor of the building. One man had been pulled out of the townhouse by a neighbor before emergency responders arrived on scene. The man was later pronounced dead. The victim was the only one inside at the time of the fire. Other townhouse units did not appear to be affected, officials said.

One dead in Wood County fire By April 24, 2021 - 9:52 am PARKERSBURG, W.Va. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal is involved in the investigation of a fatal fire in Parkersburg from Friday. The victim was discovered in the ashes of a mobile home fire after the flames were out Friday morning. Fire crews arrived to find the trailer fully engulfed at a mobile home park on Pickering Street in south Parkersburg. The body of the victim was sent to the state Medical Examiner for an autopsy and positive identification. The fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. Friday. A cause is not known.

Mar 13, 2021 Applause to the Elkins Fire Department for their quick work in putting out a fatal fire in just over an hour Wednesday morning. Two individuals died in the fire in a River Street house that had been declared uninhabitable. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the incident. Applause to the 43 years of service to the City of Elkins put in by Carman Metheny, the longtime Elkins City Councilman, who will take part in his last meeting as a current council member this Thursday. Metheny served on city council the past 16 years. Before that he worked for the City of Elkins for 28 years. We salute Metheny for his dedication to the city, and for his openness and honesty in his dealings with the public and the press.
