West Virginia Northern Community College President Dr. Daniel Mosser addressed city leaders during Tuesday eveningâs regular meeting of Wheeling City Council, blasting the city for its support of a venture to bring a program through Bluefield State College to the former Ohio Valley Medical Center campus.
WHEELING Wheeling City Council members attending their second in-person meeting of the year Tuesday were publicly excoriated at the end of the meeting by presidents of three local colleges, who continue to express disdain over the city’s proposed venture with Bluefield State College.
Speaking during the open public forum portion at the end of the council meeting, West Virginia Northern Community College President Daniel Mosser carried the torch on behalf of WVNCC, West Liberty University and Wheeling University.

WHEELING Officials at Bluefield State College and in the city of Wheeling expressed optimism about potential for collaborating with three local colleges to provide the best possible array of opportunities for higher education in the Ohio Valley.
Last week, presidents of Wheeling University, West Virginia Northern Community College and West Liberty State University publicly opposed efforts by city officials to bring a new program from Bluefield State College to Wheeling.
The city had entered into a memorandum of understanding with Bluefield State, hoping to work together to allow the college to open a new Engineering and Manufacturing Center in a building at the city-owned former Ohio Valley Medical Center.

WHEELING Wheeling City Council members had mixed reactions to backlash from three local institutions of higher learning, which this week jointly and publicly opposed the city’s efforts to bring Bluefield State College to Wheeling.
Some council members on Thursday indicated that, moving forward, they would reconsider their support of the effort to bring the southern West Virginia college to Wheeling, a project initiated earlier this year through a memorandum of understanding between the city and Bluefield State. Other council members and city leaders indicated they will continue supporting the move, another part of the ongoing effort to fill vacant space at the city-owned former Ohio Valley Medical Center.
