The Nabdam Deputy District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Upper East Region, Mr Dominic Kulkong, has been shot dead when a group of three armed men carried a robbery operation at the Pelungu market.
The incident occurred on Saturday, February 27, 2021. The Director, 31, had reportedly gone with another person on a motorbike to transact business around a Mobile Money outlet in the area when the incident occurred.
The Public Affairs Officer of the Upper East Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr David Fianko-Okyere, who confirmed the incident to Graphic Online at Bolgatanga on Friday, March 5, 2021, said the deceased, together with another man were on a motorbike when one of the suspected robbers ordered them to turn off the motorbike engine and lie on the ground but when the deceased attempted to flee the scene with the motorbike, the robbers shot him dead.
The Upper East Regional Police Command says it has extended an invitation to tomato traders and commercial drivers plying the Bolgatanga-Paga highway to help find ways of dealing with the spate of armed robbery attacks on that stretch of the road.
However, before that meeting is held, the police command says it has put in place some measures to curb robberies on the road.
One of the measures is the positioning of personnel at Karemenga, which is between the North East and the Upper East Regions so that anytime tomato traders and drivers approach the area they are able to draw the attention of police for security to be provided.

The Upper East Regional Police Command has intensified its operations to pursue all who fail to comply with the COVID-19 protocols of wearing nose masks and social distancing in the region.
ASP David Fianko-Okyere, in charge of Public Affairs, who relayed the proposed plans to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga, said all district Offices were working extensively to move into the communities and markets to ensure that the protocols were well respected.
ASP Fianko-Okyere said compliance on the roads was good, but warned that those who wore the nose masks only when they were approaching a police duty post should stop such acts and help to fight the spread.

Residents of Gbane in the Talensi District in the Upper East Region were thrown into a state of shock when a young man shot himself in the head with a locally manufactured pistol because he was refused an alcoholic drink.
The deceased, Jacob Gbamri, aka Lion, aged 29, had earlier gone on a drinking spree in the neighbourhood before returning home drunk.
When he attempted to take in more alcohol from a nearby drinking spot owned by his wife, Ms Akua Yinputa Merit, the latter allegedly refused to serve him.
A few moments later, members of the household heard the sound of a gunshot only to discover that Gbamri, after he was refused the alcoholic drink, picked his pistol and shot himself to death.
