In Red Bluff, California Legionnaires came together with others for a service to honor Vietnam veterans in a service that included a moment of silence in honor of those who died during the war.
“Extremely proud when you see the people come out that you served during that period of time because there are so many young people today that don t even know what the Vietnam war is, American Legion Post 167 Legionnaire Preston Epperson told Action News Now. And it makes you proud when you can see people come out and still salute the flag.”

The Dickinson County Office of Veterans Affairs set up information booths at the post, where veterans were invited to meet with representatives from Post 50, veteran service officers, Menominee River Habitat for Humanity and the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress. Research studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. ESCANABA Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) is offering a three-part online Dementia training series for caregivers of people with dementia. Each class is an hour long and includes The Dementia Overview for Family and Friends, Planning Activities for Persons with Dementia, and Understanding Behavior and Support Needs of Persons with Dementia.
The Dementia Overview for Family and Friends training is at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12. The one-hour online class provides information about dementia as a disease, how the disease affects more than just memory, the role of confusion, and communication skills as well as providing strategies and techniques useful for daily interaction with individuals living with dementia.
