I turned to a lot of comfort games throughout this year, but 2020 also brought lots of great new games for myself and friends to play.
As 2020 (thankfully) comes to a close, the DualShockers staff is coming together to share their personal favorite games throughout the year. Unlike our official Game of the Year Awards, each of these lists is meant to reflect which games stood out personally to each of our staff members. Additionally, any game not just 2020 releases can be considered in each Top 10 List.
10. Cyberpunk 2077

The best games to grace our fair platform in this most cursed of years
After all the triple-A game delays of 2020 we decided to follow suit and delay our game of the year celebrations, too. We’ve kept it
in 2020, though, and that’s the key part really, isn’t it?
It’s actually been a pretty good year for games, which is fortunate because it’s not been a good year for much else. We’ve had some of the decade’s best shooters, countless breakout indies, the first system seller for VR, and huge technical advancements across the industry. Sure, the year’s complications have delayed anticipated games such as Halo Infinite, Deathloop, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, but even in deepest darkest lockdown PC gamers have found more than a few gems to plug the gaps.

While many a console gamer spent this year lusting after a new PlayStation or Xbox, those who prefer to game with a mouse and keyboard had their own leaps forward in technology to try and acquire in the last few months (and often just as fruitlessly).
And just as there have been a fantastic array of games on console, PC gamers have their own experiences that they can hold up as fantastic reasons to throw more money than feels reasonable at their gaming hobby. Though you absolutely don’t need to have a PC at the bleeding edge to enjoy our winner.

Gaming never went out of style, but in 2020, it evolved from a fun hobby into an essential lifeline. Staying sane isn’t easy when you’re stuck in isolation for months on end. You can only watch so much Netflix before your brain starts dripping out of your ears. Games provide more active experiences that can help you forget that you’ve been staring at the same walls for weeks, letting you explore far-away virtual worlds or hang out with friends in multiplayer lobbies.
