MOHW chides celebrity over pregnancy post
By Wu Liang-yi and Jake Chung / Staff reporter, with staff writer
The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) yesterday refuted claims by a transgender Internet celebrity, known as Wang Yao (罔腰), that she was pregnant, adding that Taiwan does not permit uterine transplantation.
Wang Yao should not mislead the public with disinformation, the ministry said.
Wang Yao on Thursday posted on Instagram photos of a sonogram result saying that she was pregnant and that it was an “abdominal pregnancy.”
Department of Medical Affairs Director-General Liu Yueh-ping (劉越萍) said that no hospital in Taiwan has been approved to conduct uterus transplants, adding that abdominal pregnancy can cause fatal hemorrhaging and doctors usually recommend to abort the embryo under such conditions.

Starting next month, all 332,000 medical personnel nationwide are to have priority access to COVID-19 shots, Centers for Disease Control Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥), who is spokesman for the Central Epidemic Control Center (CECC), said yesterday.
Based on the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) list, 200,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine should arrive as early as next week, the center said.
Chuang said that about 140,000 people including central and local government officials who oversee disease prevention, personnel who have first contact with potential COVID-19 patients and Customs Administration personnel are second in line to receive the vaccine.
