ASEAN member states, including Vietnam, have agreed to set aside US$10.5 million from the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund to purchase vaccines for their citizens on the basis of equal distribution to all 10 countries.

The agreement was reached during the sixth meeting of the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Working Group on Public Health Emergencies, held via video conference on February 18.
The fund has to date received commitments of over US$15 million in support from ASEAN members and their partners.

Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Eiji Yamamoto recently lauded Brunei’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak as “extremely effective”.
During a reception hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday at the The Rizqun International Hotel, in conjunction with the Emperor of Japan’s 61
st birthday, Yamamoto said, “Under the strong leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the response in Brunei has been extremely effective.
“We can’t be more grateful to Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jafaar, his team and the frontline health workers, for their hard work and dedication to keep the people of this country safe.”
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 24): Japan has contributed US$300 million for the development and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines to help the world cope with the pandemic, said its Ambassador to Malaysia Hiroshi Oka.
Of the financial commitment over five years from this year, US$170 million (US$1=RM4.04) is for vaccine development and US$130 million for global distribution and supply of vaccines.
The research and development is done via international arrangements by pharmaceutical companies and universities with the funding being used to support the various development of vaccine initiatives and researches, he told
