THE NORTH Central Regional Health Authority s (NCRHA) chief executive officer Davlin Thomas has praised staff at the Arima General Hospital for having completed hundreds of critical operations throughout the covid19 pandemic, including 116 holmium laser lithotripsy procedures.
These entail using a surgical laser to perform several types of urological surgeries such as the removal of kidney stones.
In a media release from the NCRHA, Thomas said none of its accomplishments in over the past year would have been possible without the efforts of members of staff who consistently showed up on a day-to-day-basis in the wake of a global pandemic to make sure that the NCRHA was able to provide quality patient care and service.

An 81-year-old diabetic and hypertensive man has had his appointment for the covid19 vaccine moved up to next Friday, after first receiving a date in June. The change was made after his daughter s concerns about when he would get the vaccine were raised by Newsday at the Health Ministry s virtual media conference on Saturday.
Bianca Superville wrote to Newsday saying she called one of the hotlines to make an appointment for her father, Edwaldo Seijas, on April 6 – the first day the rollout of vaccination began for non-communicable disease (NCD) patients over 60.
Despite months of preparation for the rollout of the Ministry of Health’s vaccination programme, health officials are struggling to manage the volume of requests for vaccines.
Principal medical officer, Dr Maryam Abdool Richards, said: “We have received concerns from members of the population regarding the time taken to reach the hotlines and also regarding the persons who would have gone into the health centres to make appointments themselves.”

Dr Richards said while a challenge, she considered the number of requests a positive sign that there was high acceptance for the AstraZeneca vaccine.
“Just to let you know the high level of interest in this vaccine, Diego Martin health centre alone had over 600 persons coming in to make appointments, on a phased basis, of course, yesterday,” she said.

Minister of health gets Covid-19 jab, says T&T set to surpass daily vaccination target
Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh received his vaccination against Covid-19 today. Before the jab, the health minister said that he was happy about the start of the vaccine rollout.
“From all reports so far, barring a couple hiccups, which you will expect, things have gone relatively smoothly. We have been able to hit our target of 1000 doses per day,” he said.
