COVID-19: KMT urges vast vaccine rollout despite shortage

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) caucus yesterday called on the government to open COVID-19 vaccinations to all members of the public, issue cash subsidies and conduct general COVID-19 testing.
KMT Legislator Cheng Li-wen (鄭麗文) told a news conference in Taipei that the government should implement a general vaccination program, despite a scarcity of vaccine doses.
A batch of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines that arrived yesterday only contains 150,000 doses, which is not enough, she said, adding that the government’s messaging on vaccine purchases changes daily.

Taipei, May 28 (CNA) Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) expressed concern about the trajectory of Taiwan s current COVID-19 outbreak after the country reported 555 domestic cases and 19 deaths on Friday.
With the latest adjustments, the overall trend (of new cases) is flat, and that is not a very good sign. The outbreak is plateauing, but we haven t seen (the numbers) begin to fall, said Chen, who also heads the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
Of the domestic cases reported on Friday, 297 were newly confirmed cases and 258 were from a backlog of test results that the CECC has been announcing over the last week.
