Taipei, May 15 (CNA) The Ministry of Economic Affairs said Saturday it has been working with local retailers to impose caps on the number of daily life supplies available per customer as Taiwan undergoes panic buying amid an escalation in the number of COVID-19 cases.
Each customer can only buy up to two items in the categories of toilet paper, instant noodles, rice and canned food, respectively, the ministry said.
The ministry also urged members of the public to stay calm on its Facebook page, saying that supplies are ample and that Taiwan produces 80,000 boxes of toilet paper each day.

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday raised the COVID-19 alert for Taipei and New Taipei City to level 3 in light of surging cases in the two cities.
The enhanced disease prevention measures for level 3 are to be implemented until May 28, Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the center, told a morning news conference at the Executive Yuan in Taipei.
Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) raised the COVID-19 alert level for Taipei and New Taipei cities to Level 3 on Saturday, as well as tightened disease control measures islandwide after reporting 180 new domestically-transmitted cases on the same day.
